Monsanto to pay $1.4 billion top acquire Cargill's International Seed Operations
Article Abstract:
Monsanto Co., a biotechnology firm based in St. Louis, MO, is slated to acquire the foreign-seed operations of Cargill Inc. for $1.4 billion, as part of its strategy to combine seed businesses with its operation. The deal will provide the means for Monsanto to easily introduce the genetically-modified crops to dozens of countries outside the US. Cargill, a Minneapolis, MN-based grain processor, has breeding businesses in 24 countries and distributes seed in 51 countries. The deal with Cargill will prove to be beneficial in such areas as Latin America, where it will contend with Pioneer Hi-Bred International.
