Moons vs lonely planets
Article Abstract:
The proliferation of travel books attests to the importance and ready market for guidebooks. Even in the early days of travel, it was not uncommon to have women travel writers, as exemplified by the timelessness of the works of Isabella Bird. The surge in popularity of Asian travel books gave rise to new formats and styles, prominent among which are Tony Wheeler's 'Across Asia on the Cheap' and Bill Dalton's 'The Indonesia Handbook.' Books published under the Moon, Lonely Planet and Odyssey brands are also commendable.

In harm's way
Article Abstract:
Panmunjom, South Korea is an uneasy place. It is the only entry point between North and South Korea along the Demilitarized Zone, and is the likely location for a first strike in any engagement between the two countries. It is protected only by a small Swiss UN force at Camp Bonifas. Frequent zone violations add to local tensions. The paraphernalia of militarism, including a heavily mined perimeter, adds to the physical danger.
