Morgan Stanley heads first-quarter rankings
Article Abstract:
Morgan Stanley was the leading advisor on worldwide and European merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions in 1st qtr 1995. The company advised on 25 global deals worth $35.9 billion and four European deals worth $17.2 billion. The value of European M&A deals rose by $22.5 billion during January-March 1995 versus the year earlier period. Goldman Sachs has advised on 42 deals worth $23.3 billion in total, and Lazard Houses 19 transactions worth $25.2 billion. CS First Boston advised on 13 transactions worth $8.6 billion and was the leading European bank not working on the Glaxo-Wellcome transaction.

Buyers dip into Denmark
Article Abstract:
Merger and acquisition transactions in Denmark rose to a total value of $1.86 billion in 1994 from $598 million in 1993. There were 72 cross-border acquisitions in Denmark in 1994 compared with 51 in 1993. A record foreign investment of 11.5 billion Danish Krone was achieved in 1993, with most of the investment made via acquisitions and mergers. Foreign firms find Danish companies attractive acquisition targets because they offer excellent export capabilities, technological expertise or efficient management which makes them highly competitive in worldwide markets.

US is UK M&A favourite
Article Abstract:
UK companies spent a record 5.5 billion pounds sterling on foreign purchases in the fourth quarter of 1994, and investment in overseas acquisitions totalled 15.1 billion pounds sterling in 1994. The US was the most popular market, representing 46% of the value of overseas acquisitions in the final quarter of the year. There were also more acquisitions within the UK, with investment of 8.5 billion pounds sterling in domestic purchases.
