Narmada Cement Company Ltd (NCCL) incurred a net loss of Rs5.83 crore in 1997-98 (net profit of Rs12 crore in 1996-97). It produced 10.59 lakh tonnes of clinker (10.18 lakh tonnes). It sold 3.35 lakh tonnes of clinker (2.34 lakh tonnes). It sold 7.78 lakh tonnes of cement (7.31 lakh tonnes). NARMADA CEMENT COMPANY LIMITED: A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) is coming out with an open offer to acquire Narmada Cement Company Ltd (NCCL). L&T has entered into an agreement with the promoters of NCCL to acquire 68.42 percent at Rs34 per share and has offered the same price to the public to acquire the remaining 31.58 percent shares. NCCL had reported a net loss of Rs5.83 crore on gross sales of Rs196 crore in 1997- 98. The company also showed a net loss of Rs14.30 crore on net sales of Rs69.68 crore in the first half of 1998-99. Narmada Cement Company has registered a net loss of Rs9.63 crore on a turnover of Rs21.07 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998. It provided Rs1.20 crore towards interest cost and Rs2.04 crore towards depreciation. It has shown a net loss of Rs23.93 crore on a turnover of Rs90.76 crore for the nine months ended December 1998. The company was recently acquired by Larsen & Toubro at a cost of Rs243 crore. (khr)
