NH wants to realise important development projects
Article Abstract:
Nova hut (NH) (Ostrava, Czech Republic), metallurgy firm, plans to realise important development projects by 2010. The company wants to decrease its production costs and to increase the quality and competitiveness of its products due to the projects. The construction of a mini-mill is one of the firm's most important projects. The firm has been working on the project since 1994. About 8 bil Kc will be invested in the construction of the mini-mill, which will have a capacity of 1 mil t of metallurgy products per year. International Finance Corporation (IFC) (US) participated in the ensuring of finances for the project. The pilot operation of the first part of the mini-mill, which includes a pot furnace and continuous steel casting equipment, was started at the end of 1997. The mini-mill should produce flat products from the end of 1999. Flat products will be a part of the firm's main production. The products should represent 40% of the firm's total production in 1998 compared to 25% in 1998. The share should increase further during the next few years.

An important supplier of GSM networks

Siemens (Germany), electrical engineering company, would like to participate in the implementation of the network GSM 1800 in the Czech Republic in 1999. The firm, which is one of the world's largest suppliers of GSM technology, offers complete infrastructure necessary for the operation of the network. A condition for the choice of a third Czech mobile network operator is the commissioning of the network GSM 1800 in 1999. Siemens is ready to fulfil the condition. In the Czech Republic, Siemens holds majority stakes in 12 firms, which have nearly 11,000 employees. Siemens's direct investments in their development were 7 bil Kc in 1989-1998. One of the firms is the telecommunication firm Siemens Telekomunikace (Czech Republic), which was set up in 1991. The firm participates in the digitisation of Czech and Slovak public telecommunication networks.

Nova Hut takes its breath

Nova hut (NH) (Ostrava, Czech Republic), metallurgy company, will produce steel by continuous casting only from August 1999. The firm is able to realise the production due to continuous steel casting technology worth over 1.533 bil Kc. The third continuous casting equipment was commissioned in August 1999. The equipment's capacity is 900,000 t of blanks per year. The majority of the line's production will be intended for a continuous wire mill train. The rest of the line's production will be processed at a medium-fine rolling mill, the band train P 250 and a heavy mill train. NH will end its continuous ingot casting definitely due to the commissioning of the third continuous casting equipment.
