The Danish group NKT is to merge its cable activities with the German company Felten & Guilleaume Energietechnik. Headquarters of the merged company will be located in Germany, and the director of NKT Cables, Asger Bundgaard-Jensen, will become MD. Turnover will total DKr 4bn (USD 0.6bn) and the number of employees about 4,000. The aim is to create a financially strong, high-tech European cable group for further expansion. The merger will take place during 1998.

Pakistan's $26.37 billion budget boosts spending, farm incentives

Pakistan's new budget does not contain new taxes, targets the deficit at 4% of gross domestic product, and anticipates economic growth at 7% for the year ending June 2007. Inflation is expected to be 6.5%. The budget includes food item subsidies, farm sector incentives, and minimum wages for unskilled labor positions.
