Article Abstract:
State Petrochemical Industry Bureau (SPIB) is considering to boost both sales and production in petroleum and petrochemical industries. Measures include increasing oil production in 1998 to 143.13 mn tonnes which is 1.14% up the previous target. Meanwhile, the SPIB will handle anti-smuggling operations and take a look on production, refining and importing work of China National Petroleum Corp. and China Petroleum Corp. (Sinopec). The government has stopped the oil products imports and reduced the crude oil import in order to aggregate sales despite prices falling. *

Some key industries will face price control as the Government has decided to set prices for products to prevent severe price competition and dumping. The price control will cover machinery, metallurgy, construction materials, light industry, textiles and petro-chemical industries. Beijing's 40,800 state-owned industrial firms had reported serious losses of RMB6.72 bn in the first 8 months of 1998, as result of dumping. *

Hebei infrastructure funds to soar

Hebei Province is expected to raise investment in infrastructure projects to 7 bn yuan in 1998. So far, 1.65 bn yuan has been used to construct waterworks and sewage disposal projects, and urban engineering, gas and heating and garden facilities. Major projects included water diversion in Shijiazhuang, a water supply facility in Baoding and sewage disposal units. They involved a total investment of 2.23 bn yuan. *
