Melnik has been cleared
Article Abstract:
Energotrans (Prague, Czech Republic), power company, invested 1.45 bil Kc in the desulphurising of the power station Elektrarna Melnik I (EME). The complementary costs on the project were 300 mil Kc. The project's supplier was ABB (Sweden/Switzerland), which used its technology of wet calcareous washing. About 70% of the project was realised by Czech firms from the group ABB and their domestic subsuppliers. Waste power-gypsum from the power station is taken by building material producers. Energotrans, EME's operator, has a 70% stake held by Prazska teplarenska (Prague, Czech Republic) and a 30% stake by CEZ (Prague, Czech Republic). EME has an electrical output of 6x55 MW and a thermal output of 6x163 MW, which is utilised for the heating of a part of Prague and Melnik. The life of EME, which was commissioned in 1961, will be at least 20 years after the modernisation.
