Neptune Orient agrees to sell train network of U.S. unit: $315 million deal will reduce shipper's debt load and help develop logistics business

Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines Ltd will sell Land Transport Services Inc, the North American train network of its US container shipping unit APL, to a group headed by former APL executives who established the network. Under the deal, $292.5 million will be paid upon closing including a payment of $15 million is Land Transport meets its earnings target for 1999. The sale is part of Neptune's efforts to reduce its debts by eliminating noncore assets.
