Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp. is changing the way it runs its foreign subsidiaries. While regional branches of the company have long been given relative autonomy in the development of new cars, the auto maker is now asking that all its units share basic parts and collaborate in the design of vehicles. Its hope is that such standardization of its production systems will produce cars that can be easily adapted for sale anywhere around the world.
