New exhibition opportunity for interior design
Article Abstract:
High quality furniture designers are being invited to participate in a new exhibition to be held in March 1993 at the Royal College of Art, London, England. The show, entitled Spectrum, has been devised by designers who were disillusioned with the established Interior Design International exhibition organised by the Contract Design Association. Spectrum will emphasise high quality and innovative design and will have only 40 invited exhibitors. The organisers will assess its impact and decide on future shows after the event.

Cappellini had the best overall collection including works by James Irvine, Jasper Morrison and Shiro Kuramata. Cassina displayed Andrea Branzi's surprising conference chairs while the new venture, Schopenhauer, showed a range of shelving. A new, environmentally friendly upholstery material, Waterlily, was exhibited by ICI.

Problems of designing without a client
Article Abstract:
Ben Kelly's interior design, 'Door Window Staircase' is displayed in the Victorian Kelvingrove Museum. The contrast between the exhibit and the rest of the museum is the most interesting aspect of the work. Kelly's bright, colourful interior is an example of his non-conformist approach but the exhibition lacks real tension. Kelly needs to work withing the confines of a real brief from a client.
