The budget and after; industry forecast
Article Abstract:
The construction industry is unlikely to recover from recession in 1992. New orders fell by 8% in 1991 and the 1992 Budget has done little to directly revive the industry as the general economy remains depressed. Growth in construction work is expected to come from the social and private rented housing, education and health sectors where some finance is available for new building. Construction costs are not expected to rise and tender levels will similarly remain at a low level. Conditions in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales reflect the relative health of the regional economies.

'RIBA Leads' forecasts few bright spots in 1993
Article Abstract:
Architects are expecting 1993 to be a poor year as the recession and oversupply of housing and offices continues. Private housing and office development work may improve towards the end of the year but the retail and leisure sectors show no sign of recovery and work in there areas is expected to decline by three or four percent. Industrial work will remain at 1992 levels. The only growth sector is likely to be the public sector where housing, schools, social services and regeneration will receive more funding.

Higher hopes not yet fulfilled
Article Abstract:
British construction industry 1996 quarter two forecasts are discouraging even though feelings are positive within the industry. Construction work for the millenium is expected to boost work volume. Private commercial projects, particularly in the South-east, have increased by 20% since 1995. Rail transport is expected to become important for goods transfer. Regional aspects of Greater London, South-east and East Anglia are discussed.
