Newsletter from the Harvard Business School
Article Abstract:
Harvard Business School dean John H. McArthur discusses his views on the teaching of business ethics, and on the supply of and demand for holders of advanced business degrees. McArthur acknowledges that Harvard faces a struggle in convincing people that ethics can be taught. The key to developing a sound ethics program at the school will be to find qualified teachers and giving them time to create a workable program. Some business people have expressed concern over the high number of Harvard Business School graduates who are going into either investment banking or consulting. McArthur sees this as only a short-term trend, however.

Article Abstract:
At a recent reunion of the class of 1960 at the Harvard Business school a survey was conducted. The results indicate that more than 40 percent of the 1960 graduates are today millionaires, 50 percent of the reunion participants earned more than $100,000 annually, 64 percent had been closely involved with the founding of a new business venture, 54 percent considered themselves to be entrepreneurs, and 95 percent would work for an MBA if they had to make the decision over again. The big surprise was that those who became entrepreneurs had been student activists during their college days.

Article Abstract:
The Harvard Business School(HBS) is currently concerned with finding the key to Japanese management techniques. It has found that product development in Japan is a process that lacks any preconceived order but it is accomplished by ad-hoc groups. These creative teams are often composed of sales personnel who bring the experience of what the consumer wants. Business organization plays a crucial part in HBS research and so does the management of service industry. In these cases, the use of human resources is critical.
