Nissan charts collision course toward keiretsu system
Article Abstract:
Nissan Motor Co's restructuring plan threatens a time-honored Japanese business tradition, the keiretsu system of suppliers. The company intends to sell its stakes in over 1,000 auto-components suppliers and other firms in its keiretsu to free up capital and reduce cost. The plan has drawn the ire of the Japanese government and politicians since it will negatively affect suppliers and their employees. Nissan's shares also fell 2.7% due to investors' pessimism that the company cannot carry out its plan.
