Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages in Germany
Article Abstract:
The drinks market in Germany is essentially mature although consumption per person has been on a plateau for several years. There was increased consumption of non-alcoholic drinks in 1997, with a fall in the consumption of alcoholic drinks. Prices are being forced down in several sectors due to intense competition. Beer production is around 115 mn hl a year, although total exports are increasingly steadily. Local wine production is limited by the harvests which have been poor over the past three years, although Germany wine prices are improving.
