Nonresident Indians doubt government's reform plan
Article Abstract:
Newly appointed Indian Finance Minister P. Chidambaram discussed a new economic policy aimed at encouraging foreign investments in India during a three-day conference in Singapore entitled 'India: The Uncaged Tiger.' Despite his positive rhetoric, Chidambaram failed to convince many nonresident Indian entrepreneurs that significant change in the country's economic state is near. Many nonresident Indian entrepreneurs hounded Chidambaram about the difficulties of starting businesses in the country. They called for the establishment of a permanent forum that will lobby the Indian government in behalf of nonresident Indians.

Political discord might jeopardize nation's economy
Article Abstract:
The worsening political rift between Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may place the country into a more unstable condition. Deputy Ibrahim has allegedly took a back seat, allowing his PM to go by his will in running Malaysia's beleaguered economy. Earlier, the International Monetary Fund has urged the government to maintain a high interest rate in order to stabilize its currency. However, the PM ordered instead the central bank to cut its interest rates by half a percentage point.
