Norway: No ringing of wedding bells
Article Abstract:
The Norwegian financial institutions Storebrand and Christiania Bank-Kreditkassen (CBK) are not to merge. Fewer than the necessary 66% company shareholders voted for the merger to proceed. Company directors are disappointed with the vote, particularly since 71% CBK shareholders had already given their approval for the merger to go ahead. The Norwegian television channel TV2 is trying to persuade broadcasting company Scandinavian Broadcasting Systems to merge channels.

The 23 million pounds sterling purchase included British companies Cowley Designs, Robineau Toys and Praxis Tailoring. It was arranged quickly and illustrates how acquisitions are favoured in the current economic climate as an effective vehicle for strategic growth. William Baird sold the businesses after choosing to concentrate on its future manufacturing business.
