Curbing court shopping: libel laws

A US court has refused to enforce a libel judgment won in an English court by an Indian businessman against the periodical 'India Abroad.' The US publishing industry hopes the favorable decision in the case will limit the use of English courts in libel cases.

Approximately 24,000 civilians are killed or wounded every year by anti-personnel landmines, and an agreement to ban their use has yet to be reached. Some progress has been made, however, since landmines appeared on no disarmament agenda prior to 1992.

Curbing horror

Great progress is being made in clearing areas of landmines, but much remains to be done to eliminate stockpiles of landmines. Even some countries which have signed the Ottawa convention are not meeting their obligations.
