Norwegian Nordkapp tracks down SPS-67 radar
Article Abstract:
DRS Technologies has received an order for $4.1-million worth of AN/SPS-67(V)3 surface-search radar, including training support and engineering services, from EDO Combat Systems in the US for installation in the Norwegian Coast Guard's Nordkapp-class offshore patrol vessels. EDO Combat System is the contractor for the command, control and sensors upgrade of the Norwegian vessels. The Norwegian Coast Guard's fleet of three Nordkapp-class vessels will be retrofitted with the radar in 2001. DRS Technologies is also expecting more US Navy orders for the system since the SPS-67 is the replacement for the SPS-10.

Image-intensified camera sees through the bloom
Article Abstract:
Ball Aerospace and Technologies has developed an image-intensified charge- coupled-device camera for integration into the Marconi Electronic Systems helmet-mounted display in the US Marine Corps AH-1Z attack helicopter. The camera uses the company's ABT-321 anti-blooming technology to eliminate blooming around bright lights, expanding the camera's dynamic range to up to 1,000,000:1. The result is a video image quality that is comparable to that of direct-view night-vision goggles.

The radar series, which was manufactured to help in the tracking of fast moving and maneuvering enemy targets of up to 600 knots, can display radar video from two separate transceivers with asynchronous rotating antenna units functioning on two different frequencies simultaneously in the same video circle. The radars are already being used by the navies of Greece and Morocco.
