Of fish, trees - and natives
Article Abstract:
Rulings on native peoples in Canada have led to moves by native fisherman to fish unrestricted by federal licenses and regulations. There have also been logging operations on land claimed by native peoples. The First Nations Summit, representing native peoples in British Colombia, argues that the authorities want them to abandon aboriginal rights. They are also concerned about disputed areas being denuded of resources. A goal of achieving treaties with native peoples within two years has been set by British Colombian officials.

Fishy figures
Article Abstract:
Unreliable figures from China have disguised a large downward trend in the world fish catch, according to researchers Daniel Pauly and Reg Watson. It now appears that the Chinese figures have distorted world statistics, and that the world catch has declined by around 360,000 t a year since 1988.
