Risky business: does China-style disorder lie in store?
Article Abstract:
Mainland China is detaining foreigner business people on flimsy grounds and abusing their civil rights, making it a risky place to do business. A report by the Hong Kong government lists 18 Hong Kong travelers who have vanished or been held without charge, nearly all of them businessmen in disputes with Chinese authorities or partners. People are often held as hostages pending payments of arbitrary sums by their families or companies, and the central government efforts to monitor local courts are yet to become effective.

In Sri (Shri?) Lanka, the tea is fine
Article Abstract:
Sri Lanka, called Ceylon until 1978, is unable to decide how to spell its name. Some parts of the government hold out for 'Sri Lanka,' while other parts are certain that 'Shri Lanka' is the more accurate transliteration from the Sinhala. Tea, which Sri Lanka produces more of than any other country, provides a pleasant diversion from this name-confusion. Sri Lanka's tea output has revived and now keeps tasters busy. The Hill Club at the town of Nuwara Eliya is a reminder of the tea planters' bygone opulence.
