De Benedetti picks up the pieces
Article Abstract:
Carlo de Benedetti has changed his strategic planning and slowed down since his unsuccessful raid on Societe Generale de Belgique in 1987. De Benedetti still plans to build a European-wide empire through his holding company Cerus S.A. An acquisition between Cerus and Dumenil Leble S.A, which is expected to be completed in June, would make Cerus France's fourth largest holding company with combined assets of 20 billion French francs and expected 1988 profits of around 400 million French francs. Cerus also plans to acquire an 18% share in Agefi Developpement in exchange for their 40% stake in Dafsa. Additionally, Cerus plans to sell one-third of its shares in Yves St. Laurent and make some acquisitions in Turkey and Greece.
