Blocked exchanges: a taxonomy
Article Abstract:
Blocked exchanges, things which cannot be bought or sold in the US, can be classified based on a logical framework. The classification includes things which cannot be owned, things which should not be owned, things which cannot be alienated, things which should not be alienated, things which should not be exchanged for gain and actions which are changed in nature when done for money.

Our humanity vs. their sovereignty
Article Abstract:
The television scenes of masses of people driven into exile prompted American viewers to follow President Clinton into the NATO-Yugoslavia Conflict. Concern for Serbia's sovereignty was overridden when people were seen burned out of their homes. Television drives military policy.The use of ground troops has been ruled out because of the possibility of bloody battle scenes.

Olympics of the avant-garde
Article Abstract:
Documenta, considered to be the Olympics of contemporary art, is held every four or five years in Kassel, Germany. It is known to be one of the world's foremost showcases for the avant-garde in art. The 1992 version will run from Jun 13 through Sep 20.
