On the top of our economy in the automotive century
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: According to qualified estimates, the volume of the supplies of domestic manufacturers to the automotive industry was nearly CEK 200 bil in 2000. About 70% of the volume was represented by exports. There are 264 registered firms, which supply to the automotive industry and have about 110,000 employees, in the Czech Republic excluding final manufacturers. The total volume of the production of the firms was CEK 182 bil in 2000. The outputs of domestic suppliers to the automotive industry increased by nearly 25% in 1999 compared to 1998 and by nearly 15% in 2000 compared to 1999. About 85% of the registered suppliers have certificates according to ISO 9000. The certification of quality control according to the standards ISO 9000 and QS is prescribed at all the final suppliers.

Karosa invests
Article Abstract:
Karosa (Vysoke Myto, Czech Republic), bus manufacturer, plans to launch three new types of buses in 2003. In the middle of 2001 it will commission a new paint shop. The cost on the construction of the new unit will amount to 16 mil EUR. Another 20 mil EUR will be invested in the modernisation of an assembly line, a finishing paint shop and a welding shop. The investments are connected with Karosa's plans on the extension of bus production in the future due to membership in the international bus company Irisbus Holding (IS). The memberhsip opens the possibility of access to new, very interesting markets. IH, which is equally owned by the automotive companies Renault (France) and Iveco (Italy), is the second largest bus producer in Europe.

Car sales increased in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: A total of about 163,000 new vehicles were sold on the Czech market in 2000, about 2,000 pieces more compared to 1999. Car sales increased by 1.7% and utility vehicle sales decreased by 6% in 2000 compared to 1999. Domestic automotive companies increased their sales by 6.5% on the local market in 2000 compared to 1999. Utility vehicle manufacturers decreased their sales by 18% on the domestic market in 2000 compared to 1999. Czech vehicle importers decreased their sales by 4.1% in 2000 compared to 1999. The sales of imported cars decreased by 4.8% and the sales of imported utility vehicles dropped by 1.6% during the same period.
