Central bankers should be as concerned with asset-price inflation as they are with product-market inflation. Both types of inflation can damage the economy. Higher asset prices can cause inflation in the prices of goods and services and trigger economic instability.

Bank shares from banks that have a strong customer base have always sold for higher than their book value, which makes the measurement of these and other intangible assets a concern. New accounting standards are being enacted to place a value on them.
