Optimal file management in a hybrid storage system
Article Abstract:
A hybrid storage system composed of magnetic disks and optical disks for more effective data storage is evaluated. The method uses standard magnetic disks to store changes in data residing in the write-once read-many optical disks. Later, the incremental changes are integrated with the existing information into new optical disks. A statistical analysis of cost and data volatility factors show that the technique offers practical possibilities.

Modelling and databases
Article Abstract:
Information systems development methodologies for database modelling applications are evaluated. The effective use of object-oriented modelling in both systems and database management is favorably seen as improving the total development effort. An object-oriented management system is developed and is intended for improved operational research applications by both the data modeller and the information engineer.

Estimation of the weights of interacting criteria from the set of profiles by means of information-theoretic functionals
Article Abstract:
An unsupervised method for the identification of weights of interacting criteria by means of information-theoretic functionals is proposed. This approach can be an interesting alternative for the decision maker when the prior knowledge required by the existing supervised methods cannot be easily given.
