Optimistic interest-rate outlook cheers money managers; Schroder, Jardine Fleming still find favor with Asian markets, especially Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
Optimism reigns anew among money managers concerning the world's investment climate, as US economic indicators suggest modest growth and Asia's economic woes seen as likely to be resolved. Participants in The Asian Wall Street Journal Asset Allocation Panel forecast moderate growth and low inflation, with interest rates at low levels. Most Asian markets will overcome their cyclical handicaps, with the Philippines as a particularly attractive market. Europe's economies are recovering, while the Japanese market remains fragile. The US market is seen to remain stagnant in the medium term, with banking and finance, energy and consumer goods as preferred sectors.

However, the index sharply drops by several hundred points due to political uncertainties.

Fund managers see a certain charm in the markets of India and Brazil
Article Abstract:
Many Asian fund managers believe that emerging markets such as India and Brazil are better investment choices as compared to industrialized countries such as the US and Japan.
