Our ever-shrinking world
Article Abstract:
TerraServer is a project involving a powerful OC with Digital Equipment microprocessors, and a database of aerial photographs of the Earth. The project is still in progress, and new photographs are being added from unclassified Russian and US sources. Microsoft is developing this project, and has linked access to the web site to its CD-ROM, Encarta. Readers can link articles to images they see. They can also seek their own homes and spend hours browsing the map. There is great potential for the teaching of geography with this project.

Article Abstract:
The US and Australia have made most progress in tackling the Year 2000 computer transition problem, followed by Canada, Sweden, Israel and Britain, according to Year 2000 director, Lou Marcoccio. Surveys indicate the medium-sized countries and firms are more at risk, and that most companies will not finalise their task prior to the Year 2000. The US federal government has measured progress on tackling the problem, and appears to have the biggest problem, as well as making the biggest effort to tackle it.
