Czech Republic: According to the Czech Statistical Office (CSO), hotels and boarding houses had 202,957 permanent beds as of 31 July 1998. Tourist camps, cottage camps, tourist dormitories and private facilities had 257,000 permanent beds at the same time. There are only eight five-star hotels in the Czech Republic. The hotels have a total of 3,756 beds, only 2.5% of the total hotel capacity in the Czech Republic. About 46% of the capacity are represented by old two- and one-star hotels. According to CSO's preliminary data, about 46.8 mil guests stayed overnight in all commercial accommodation facilities in the Czech Republic in 1998, 10.4% more compared to 1997. About 37% of the number were foreigners in 1998. The Czech Republic saw foreign-exchange revenues of 3.7 bil USD in 1998. Foreign tourists spent 38 USD per head and day on average in the Czech Republic in 1998.

Loana Roznov in the black field

Loana (Roznov pod Radhostem, Czech Republic), textile company, saw a net profit of 22.146 mil Kc in 1998. The firm's 1998 outputs totalled 423.197 mil Kc. Its proceeds increased to 406.85 mil Kc in 1998 compared to 362.88 mil Kc in 1997. Loana's economy resulted in an operating profit of 3.05 mil Kc in 1998 compared to an operating loss of 49.83 mil Kc in 1997.
