A bipartisan coalition in Congress is backing a proposal to reorient US economic aid to Africa to favor nations that reform their economies. This notion is praiseworthy, but the US should seek an international consensus on African economic development, rather than impose a unilateral approach.

An African answer to African wars
Article Abstract:
The idea of forming an African peacekeeping force to intervene in Africa's ongoing civil wars has been supported by the US, France, and the UK, as well as by African nations. However, the forming of such a force has proven difficult because of distrust and a lack of cooperation.

The Franco-African summit took place recently with Francois Mitterrand unable to attend because of his health. This summit recognizes the special relationship France has with its former African colonies. An important topic at this year's meeting was the growth of democracy.
