PFI crippled by mixture of ideas
Article Abstract:
It could be argued that the UK government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI), which was designed to encourage quasi-private funding of public schemes, is in fact having the opposite effect. The necessity of looking at various PFI alternatives is serving to delay urgently required NHS schemes, and the procurement of health buildings is now the responsibility of people who are not at all qualified for this task. PFI is also placing a great strain on government departments.

Housing White Paper raises more questions than answers
Article Abstract:
The housing White Paper has been criticised for removing an important quality safeguard. Private sector developers would be encouraged to compete with housing associations for grants, based on who can produce the cheapest homes. RIBA has continually repeated concerns about the failure of the Housing Corporation to monitor housing standards. However there is a commitment to build half of all new homes on previously developed land.
