Pakistan President Farooq Leghari's dismissal of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto will not be enough to restore democracy and well-managed government to the country. Recommended reforms include holding politicians accountable for their actions and revoking the privileges of the rural elite.

Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif was fired by Pres Ghulam Ishaq Khan after he threatened to join forces with Benazir Bhutto to strip the president of some of his constitutional powers. Interim prime minister Balakh Sher Mazari is not as ambitious.
