Article Abstract:
Evolution of viruses cannot be predicted, according to research carried out by University of Idaho's Holly Wichman. She has studied two sets of viruses of the same kind subject to the same changes in the environment, in different locations. The types of adaptations seen in the viruses were different in some ways, and the order in which the changes occurred also varied. Beneficial changes occurring early on appeared to have the greatest impact.
