Past perfect: calls to rewrite recent history gain strength
Article Abstract:
Author Nobukatsu Fujioka believes it is time for Japan to regain some pride in its modern history. He is part of a movement to reform other bastions of postwar Japan, including its war-renouncing constitution. Fujioka's bestselling 'History Not Taught in Textbooks' has sold a quarter of a million copies since early summer 1996, and his book, 'The Disgrace of Modern History,' disputes the historical line on the comfort women, army prostitutes. However, some academics question Fujioka's historical accuracy and believe that history books should contain the facts.

Expensive but vital
Article Abstract:
Conventional wisdom suggests that Japan is prohibitively expensive for US companies to invest in manufacturing operations. Labor, land and transportation is much cheaper in other Asian countries yet some US firms have decided that they must operate in Japan. These include companies like Texas Instruments Japan Ltd and Japan Tupperware. The majority of US companies prefer to manufacture elsewhere and sell into Japan.
