Uighur fire
Article Abstract:
There is growing international concern about China's treatment of Muslims leaving within its borders, especially in the light of recent press reports about the repression of a Muslim uprising in Xinjiang province. China is now beginning to alienate even its strong Middle Eastern allies on this issue, and could be censured for its human rights record in Geneva, Switzerland, in Mar 1997. Its repression of Muslims is not justified, given that most foreign Muslim groups calling for independence for Xinjiang province do not represent a threat.

Reality check
Article Abstract:
The Chinese banking system is in desperate need of reform. Chinese political leaders agree that banks need to become more commercial and rid themselves of their bad debt problems. They need to break the connection between branches and local government which causes money to be lent to loss-making sources to support local employment. The growth in foreign investment in China is slowing down, so banks need to have the funds to finance China's continuing growth.
