Better and faster treatment, as well as market expansion, is another aim of these companies, as well. Future growth for this sector is estimated to be between 4% and 15%.

New technology allows music to be recorded for free off the Internet by consumers. Digital storage media does not require consumers to purchase any music. Industry analysts believe online piracy will destroy the industry by 2010. There were several mergers and several failed mergers in the pharmaceutical industry during 1998. SmithKline Beecham did not merge with American Home Products or with Glaxo Wellcome. American Home Products also did not merge with Monsanto. It is possible that Hoechst and Rhone-Poulenc will merge.
