Pay up and play the game
Article Abstract:
There is a need for the US to pay arrears owed to the United Nations (UN), to which it owes over $1 billion. The UN has carried out a number of changes sought by the US, and the Clinton administration favors paying the arrears, yet there are obstacles in the House, and conditions have also been imposed in the Senate. These include the insistence that US sovereignty should be maintained at all times The US could lose its vote in the General Assembly if it does not sort out these problems. Not paying its debts makes the US appear to be reluctant to shoulder responsibilities.
