People still reinventing
Article Abstract:
UK architect Michael Grice remains committed to the profession despite having spent the last 50 years being one of the main advocates of innovative design and new theories. Grice has earned himself a reputation for questioning traditional concepts and design practices. He began his career in the 1930s and was one of the original group which established the Architects Co-Partnership. Dissatisfaction with the management of the Architects' Association let to a spell in Sweden working for Gunnar Asplund. Grice is looking forward to his retirement which will enable him to spend more time working on his allotment.

Perils of consulting 'the people' (Changing Everything, exhibition)
Article Abstract:
The 'Changing Everything' exhibition at the South London Gallery features the work of Stephen Willats, who has spent 30 years investigating the territory between personal desire and formal reality in social housing. The work is arranged into mosaics, and the centerpiece is a maze of screens on which visitors can leave their responses. Each mosaic is themed and appears as Willats' artifice, an artistic equivalent of the fly-on-the-wall TV documentary.

Elemental interiors
Article Abstract:
Patrick Caulfield is seen as an important post-war painter and is often hailed as the modern master of the painted architectural interior. The Hayward Gallery's survey of his work includes more than 50 works, forming a visual primer of interior design. Caulfield introduced a more complex schematic approach in the mid-1970s and his work became increasingly academic and self-referential throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
