Pfizer prescribes $35M to Bates

Pfizer Warner-Lambert has awarded its estimated $35-million media planning and buying account to Toronto, Ontario-based advertising agency, Bates canada. Four agencues competed for the consolidated media AOR title, inclduing Carat Canada, MindShare Canada and The Media Co. The pharmaceutical company chose Bates because it found the firm to have a balance approach to planning and buying.

Compaq leaves PJ for H&M/FCB

Toronto, Ontario-based Compaq Canada, the Canadian unit of Houston, TX- based Compaq Computer Corp, will be moving its ad account from Palmer Jarvis DDB of Vancouver, British Columbia, to Harrod and Mirlin/FCB of Toronto. The account transfer is due to the decision by Compaq Computer to move its $300-million global account from DDB Worldwide to Foote, Cone and Belding Worldwide.

Aliant picks a handful of shops

Aliant Telecommunications has awarded its $10-million plus advertising account to two agencies and a three-agency consortium. The two agencies, which are both based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, are Pulse, a division of Cossette Communication-Marketing, and Corporate Communications. The consortium, called Allies, consists of Bristol Group, SGCI Communications and Sharp Group.
