Planned launch of 2 funds in Seoul rekindles interest in preferred shares
Article Abstract:
Low-priced preferred stocks in the South Korean stockmarket are beginning to attract the attention of bargain-hunting securities investors. The prices of preferred shares dropped in 1994 after the government made changes in the securities law to encourage mergers and acquisitions. Companies at that time dumped preferred stock to buy common stock to strengthen their positions, and they were imitated by retail investors. The potential for a rebound in preferred stocks' prices has prompted some securities firms to launch funds focusing exclusively on such stocks.
