Pol Pot unmasked: he was obsessed with secrecy and total control
Article Abstract:
Pol Pot exercised total control over the Khmer Rouge for over three decades, and his former comrades have broken hs grip on the movement by placing him on trial. Pol Pot became a senior member of the Cambodian Communist Party in 1960, and with his comrades fought Prince Norodom Sihanouk's army and the American backed troops of Gen. Lon Nol. After marching into Phnom Penh, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge turned Cambodia into a vast slave labour camp, executing, torturing of starving 1 million Cambodians. Pol Pot was secretive, often reverting codenames, and although he retired from his official posts in 1985, he retained total control of the movement.
