Two leading figures of the Liberal Democratic Party, Shin Kanemaru and Kakuei Tanaka, were arrested for accepting bribes from Lockheed Corp. Already implicated in another bribery scandal, Kanemaru's career is over. Tanaka appealed the verdict and retains political power.
