Post-communist sell-offs 'flawed.'
Article Abstract:
Many privatisation programmes which have been undertaken over recent years in post-communist Europe have strayed a long way from the main aim of privatisation, which is to 'create a competitive market economy,' according to right-wing think tank the Adam Smith Institute. This is particularly the case in south eastern European countries and the southern former Soviet republics, where there have been only limited moves towards privatisation. Many countries seem to be focusing on a narrow 'technical privatisation' and are not allowing market liberalisation.

The future is in the post
Article Abstract:
Companies engaged in direct mailing in China faced a major setback when the government banned direct selling. The State Council contends the ban is necessary because the public is ill-prepared to detect fake products. The ban is aimed at door-to-door sales where customers are more vulnerable. Experts believe the ban would adversely affect some sectors, but benefit China's direct marketing industry.
