Practice makes perfect: at 76, Harry Faulkner-Brown is as busy as ever, as an international library consultant and partner in his second practice

Harry Faulkner-Brown established Harry Faulkner-Brown Pearce Howe Murray, architectural practice, in 1989. He also runs Faulkner-Brown Associates, an international library consultancy. Libraries were the mainstay of his first practice and he established the 10 most desirable and essential qualities that a library should have, and these became known as Faulkner-Brown's Ten Commandments. He became consultant architect for the National and University Library of Iceland and has recently been consultant to the British Council for Beijing Agricultural University, China.

K+N International (Office Systems) is the UK subsidiary of Germany's office furniture systems manufacturer. The company's product ranges have changed during the 1990s, with a move towards a lighter and more pan-European style, whilst maintaining well-engineered attributes. The company stresses its reliability, with guaranteed delivery times of four to eight weeks on most products. Holzapfel is its sister company, providing integrated storage wall and partitioning.

Article Abstract:
Hungarian organic architect Imre Makovecz, who has gained a reputation for opposing Modernist architecture, is soon to speak in London, England, for the first time, when he gives the AJ/RIBA lecture. He makes extensive use of natural material, and is particularly fond of timber. He style is that of folk architecture, but cannot be dismissed as primitive. He is a strong supporter of national Romanticism, and has become widely admired for his approach to form.
