Premium bottled ales
Article Abstract:
UK sales of premium bottled ales were valued at 58 million pounds sterling in 1997, an increase of 625% from 1993. The average price of a premium brand is about 60% higher than ordinary beer. The market is predicted to increase to 120 million pounds sterling by 2002, an increase of 107% on 1997 figures. Consumers are turning to premium brands because of better quality and attractive packaging, whilst the trade in drinks to be consumed at home also continues to drive up the market. Beers with a higher alcohol content tend to be more expensive.

Lagers & NAB/LAB
Article Abstract:
The UK lager market is forecast to rise by volume from 1,900 million litres in 1998 to 2,020 million litres by 2003. The non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beer (NAB/LAB) market is forecast to fall by volume from 25 million litres in 1998 to 22 million litres by 2003. The decline in the NAB/LAB market will be driven by low expectations from consumers and more competition from other low-alcoholic beverages.
