It will be difficult for Spain to achieve the economic convergence criteria established by the European Community at its Maastricht summit. Of the standards created for inflation, long-term interest rates, budget deficit, public debt, and currency, Spain is now only in accord with the public debt standard.

Vote on Maastricht
Article Abstract:
Parliament is unsure of how it should vote regarding ratification of the Maastricht Treaty. The recession and the unpopularity of Europe with the British people make the decision more difficult. If parliament cannot decide, they should put the vote up to the people.

Half-Maastricht

The Maastricht treaty is on very thin ice after just a razor-thin margin of victory in the French referendum and the near collapse of the European Monetary System (EMS). If the EMS dissolves, it is highly unlikely that the Maastricht treaty can survive.
