Price demands, growth in house brands put pressure on Japan's Coca-Cola shares
Article Abstract:
Investors are advised to consider shares in Japanese bottlers of Coca-Cola with caution, as the beverage giant is experiencing a downtrend in Japan. Stiff competition from other beverage producers and the proliferation of low-priced, private label colas have affected the sales and have consequently trimmed the market share of Coca-Cola in the Asian country. Analysts warn investors of an impending decline in the share prices of Coke bottlers Mikuni Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and Chukyo Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

Snapple's retreat in Japan is lesson for foreign firms
Article Abstract:
The plunging sales of Snapple drinks in Japan prompted Quaker Oats Co. to cease shipping the brand to Japan in Jan. 1996. The brand experienced initial success following its introduction in 1994. However, sales dropped from 2.4 million bottles a month to 120,000 bottles a month in 1995. The decline was attributed to the Quaker Oats' failure to eliminate traits in the drinks that Japanese consumers disliked such as the murkiness of the teas and sweet fruit juice flavorings.
