Princess on a steeple
Article Abstract:
Mattel boss, Jill Barad, took up her new post in 1997, and the company's stock price has since fallen. The toy industry faces difficult times, with interactive toys becoming more popular at the expense of traditional toys. Barad has carried out cost-cutting, though critics argue that this was undertaken too late. Female chief executives tend to attract more attnetion than do their male counterparts. There are few female chief executives, and this is one reason for the attention they attract, and the unrealistic expectations that markets may have of them.

Pokemania v globophobia
Article Abstract:
There have been two fashions in children's culture, neither of which have come from the US. The first is Pokemon game cards, with the Pokemon TV series and movie also popular, and the second is a trilogy by a British writer, called J.K. Rowling, about a wizard called Harry Potter. The success of these fashions shows that globalization does not necessarily mean domination by US companies. Cultural protectionism assumes that there is a danger from US domination, and this is not necessarily the case.
