Private sector participation in health - the Australian way
Article Abstract:
The private sector is playing an increasingly active role in managing public sector hospitals in Australia. So far, around 15% of the more than 700 public hospitals in Australia have been privatized. Privatization of public hospitals allows hospital capital stock to be upgraded at little cost to the government, and also brings general cost cuts through greater competition and the implementation of private sector operating efficiencies. Bond financing has been a feature in many of the Australian hospital privatization projects.
