Horse and dog racing
Article Abstract:
The UK horse and dog racing industry is predicted to see attendances rise from 8.5 million people in 1997 to 9.3 million people by the year 2002. Betting stakes are expected to rise from 1,466 million pounds sterling in 1997 to 1,839 million pounds sterling by 2002. The number of licensed betting shops has fallen from 10,219 in 1990 to 8,963 in 1997, with the number of horses in training falling from 13,269 in 1990 to 12,889 in 1997. Attendance at dog racing events has fallen from over 15 million visits in 1960 to just over 3.5 visits in 1997.
